OCS Anthology and DVD

Universal Records are planning on releasing an Ocean Colour Scene anthology and DVD in the near future.  Although no exact details are finalised, the anthology will feature two CDs full of B-sides and rare OCS tracks (including many from the very first album).

Concurrently, Universal will also be releasing a DVD, including live footage, promotional videos and interviews.

New Album Update

As we mentioned previously, the new OCS album is now all recorded and we’re just going through the throws of the final mixes. It’s sounding ace; much heavier than the previous two albums. The band also thought it was crucial that it sounds more like an “album”, rather than a compilation of songs and they’re happy that they’ve achieved that.

The album, which is still unnamed, is due for release on 7th July (which just happens to be manager Chris Cradock’s 60th birthday!). Prior to this, the first single will be released on the 23rd June, with two CDs containing four brand new B-sides.

In the near future we will be playing around one minute of each album track on the website. Initially there will be one track for two days, followed by another track for two days and so on. When all twelve tracks have been played individually then a minute of all twelve will be accessible.

Tour News Latest

As mentioned previously, Ocean Colour Scene will undertake a full UK tour in September/October. The tour will commence on the 4th September and continue until the 15th October.  The lads will be taking in 31 dates in all, right throughout the UK and Ireland.

As many fans already know, the band have always agreed that anybody who is outside the various venues at sound check time are let in to listen.

However, for this tour we’re currently investigating all the venues for age restrictions.  We’ve had loads of letter and e-mails in the past for fans under the age of 21 or 18 who can’t get into the shows.  So to get around this, the lads are hoping to extend the sound check by playing a few extra songs to allow the fans who would be to young for the gig to see and hear the lads for free, and also get an opportunity to meet the band and get autographs, etc.  The numbers would have to be limited but once all the details have been worked out we will place on website and local press to inform all.

Album Latest

The band have now finished the recording of the new album at the Townhouse Studios in London. Max Heynes will spend the coming weeks remixing the 12 songs that have been laid down, ready for an album release in late summer 2003.

The group are delighted with the way the album’s going, and have had some hugely positive feedback from the label.  There’s 6 songs we could potentially choose as singles, and even more we’ll be able to play live later this year.

Even songs we thought we destined for stardom a year or two ago, such as ‘St. Cecilia’, haven’t managed to find their way onto the latest record.  In fact. after hearing the track “Golden Gate Bridge”, Noel Gallagher even commented “I wish I’d ****ing written that.”

Interview in Birmingham Evening Mail

In an enlightening interview in the Birmingham Evening Mail, the band announced the new album title, ‘North Atlantic Drift’ and another date for their upcoming tour, at Wolverhampton Civic Hall. ( see tour news )

Some of the best quotes to come from the article are, on the reason for OCS doing another album, Simon states “Basically we got bored playing the same songs live” and of Simon’s frustration at the Lighthouse Family beating them to the most records sold in the mid nineties, “It still bothers us that the Lighthouse Family sold more records. This time, we determined to sell more than them”. Take that one very tongue in cheek!.
